The 2024 Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships in Winterberg are over. It is fair to say that this WCH has been a rollercoaster of emotions. For the past three days, we could still enjoy the two-woman and four-man races.
A week ago, pilot Loren had crashed in the monobob race. Nevertheless, she was back at the start on Friday in the two-woman bob discipline together with her brakewoman Janna Doumpas. In the first two runs of the championship, they finished 24th twice.
The next day, it was the turn of Team NewCold's men first. Pilot Dave Wesselink had already received a trophy for 'best newcomer' from the IBSF earlier this WCH. His brakemen for the four-man race included Janko Franjić, Jelen Franjić and Stephan Huis in 't Veld. In the first run, they achieved the 14th time and in the second run the 15th time.
On Saturday, the decisive heats of the two-woman bob competition also took place. Loren Djolo and Janna Doumpas achieved the 24th time for the third time in a row. As only the top 20 were allowed to make a fourth descent, the World Championships ended a bit earlier for the women. One thing is certain, for Team NewCold's two-woman bob, this World Championships debut was a beautiful and educational experience.
The final day of the World Championships was dedicated to the decisive runs in the four-man bob discipline. The team of pilot Dave Wesselink eventually finished 16th at the World Championships in Winterberg due to these final runs. The men mainly excelled in their starts during the four-man competition. With four top 10 starts, the men are among the best starters in the world.
