How did you end up with Team NewCold?
Through a (now) former teammate and friend, Joost Dumas. In 2019, before NewCold became the main sponsor of the Dutch Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (BSBN), he organized a test event where several athletes could participate. That's also the year I made my first descents.
What do you find the coolest about the sport you practice within Team NewCold?
The excitement and adrenaline just before the start, the calmness at the start, and the relief after a good run at the finish. That's such a wonderful feeling!
What is a unique trait/fact about yourself?
My barbell bent-over row is insanely good relative to my other abilities.
Do you have tips for young athletes who want to be successful in bobsleigh?
Finding the right balance between having fun, wanting to improve, and not taking yourself or the sport/training too seriously is crucial. These three aspects go hand in hand, and when the balance is disrupted, it can truly impact how you experience the sport.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Still a member of Team NewCold, participating in World Championships, and aiming for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.
What has been your biggest achievement within Team NewCold so far?
Sitting in a WhatsApp group call with all my teammates and hearing that we were selected for the Winter Olympics. The relief and joy that everyone felt were indescribable.
